We have partnered with our sector colleagues to engage elected officials on the importance of increasing the supply of affordable housing and safeguarding existing co-op housing. We have held discussions with representatives from across the housing spectrum, all dedicated to ending homelessness, expanding affordable housing options, enhancing infrastructure, and developing sustainable communities. Collaboration is essential for making progress.
Thank you, Minister of Women and Gender Equality, Rechie Valdez, for meeting with representatives from CHF Canada and Peel/Halton CHF. We discussed Build Canada Homes and the importance of federal rental assistance in keeping people housed.

The Region of Peel and PHCHF staff continue to collaborate to support co-ops throughout the mortgage conclusion process. PHCHF & CHF Canada participated in a delegation to the Peel Region Council on Nov. 13th to support the Peel Region’s Housing Sustainability Program, which is Peel Region’s End of Mortgage (EOM) program.
Thanks to a grant from the Transformation Centre, ten co-ops from Ontario Housing Co-op Federations and CHF Canada are participating in the End of Mortgage Strategic Planning Project. This collaborative effort, led by PHCHF and supported by COCHF, aims to assist co-ops managed under the Housing Services Act (HSA) in preparing for the mortgage’s conclusion. As a cross-sector initiative, it will create tools and processes beneficial to any federation across Canada. The project focuses on helping participating housing co-ops prepare for long-term sustainability, highlighting strong governance, sound fiscal management, and effective leadership.
By 2030, co-ops in Ontario governed by the Housing Services Act (HSA) will have reached the end of their mortgage terms. Thirteen co-ops are currently working through our Roadmap to prepare for negotiations on service or exit agreements with municipal service managers and to support co-ops with interim arrangements. Town halls are an essential part of the process for engaging members in shaping their co-op’s future.
