Assistant Property Manager – Ashworth Square Co-operative

Opportunity
Ashworth Square Co-operative is seeking a full-time, permanent Assistant Property Manager to support the daily operations and community development of our 152-unit housing co-operative in Mississauga, Ontario.
Reporting to the Co-operative’s elected Board of Directors and Property Manager, the Assistant Property Manager will provide leadership in maintaining efficient operations, supporting democratic governance, and fostering a vibrant, inclusive co-operative community.

Key Responsibilities
- Have a working knowledge of the Co-operative Housing sector and promoting Cooperative Principles within the community
- Have knowledge of co-op sector and a willingness to enhance knowledge with training
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience working with diverse populations, as well as excellent written communication skills and experience writing grant proposals
- Be interested in community building, and encouraging members to volunteer on committees, while also maintaining their unit and property and being respectful neighbours
- Have strong organization skills to assist with organizing regular board meetings (including taking minutes), committee meetings, the Annual General Meeting, support the nomination process for elections including planning for accommodations required for all co-op members to participate meaningfully
- Apply and promote Co-operative Housing principles within the community
- Support the day-to-day operations, financial management, and maintenance
- Assist with supervising maintenance contractors, ensuring quality workmanship and member satisfaction
- Support and develop office and maintenance staff, fostering teamwork and accountability
- Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and committees to ensure effective governance and member engagement
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for members and staff
- Possess excellent communications and establish regular and clear communications with members.
- Be tech savvy, comfortable using Microsoft Office, Google workspace, social media platforms and able to easily learn to use new technology as needed
- Network with stakeholders such as the Region of Peel, Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada (CHF Canada), and other housing co-operatives
Qualifications and Key Competencies
- Proven experience in non-profit or co-operative housing managementFoster and engage in collaborative, professional, and cooperative working relationships with all members of the co-op
- Ability to work within a diverse community (including working with seniors, youth, people with different abilities and different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds)
- Well organized and able to manage multi-phase engagement projects
- Financially literate with experience working in the non-for-profit housing sector
- The ability to prioritize, multi-task and handle stress in a busy office environment
- Experience in staff supervision, recruitment, and performance management
- Knowledge of Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) programs and co-op by-laws is an asset
- Familiarity with acts and codes including the fire, building codes and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario)
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong conflict resolution and community-building abilities
Salary and Benefits
- Salary range: $50,000 – $60,000 (commensurate with experience)
- Extended healthcare and dental benefits
- Two (2) weeks paid vacation annually
