Maintenance Worker Required

PLEASE NOTE: This is a salaried position. Any overtime will be paid in lieu only.

Full time – 37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday.

Applicant must have various skills in the maintenance field:

– Minor plumbing
– Minor Electrical
– Some carpentry
– Installation and repairs of drywall
– Installation of Flooring would be an asset

Requirements:

– Current WHMIS certification (or co-op will pay for training)
– Basic knowledge of Health and Safety Requirements
– Bondable
– Co-op or Non Profit Housing References
– Must be able to work independently

Duties:

Administrative

– receive workorders from office
– file completed workorders in the designated filing cabinet in the office
– supply the manager with a list of materials or supplies that need to be ordered
– receive materials ordered, checking packing slip for anything missing or on backorder
– perform any other duties requested by the Board or Management
– handle emergencies as directed by Board and/or Manager
– accompany contractors or inspectors when required
– maintain an inventory system

Routine Maintenance

– each morning, walk around property, picking up any garbage
– once per month, tighten all screws and bolts on playground equipment
– check fencing for stability, report any problems to the office
– notify management of any vandalism or necessary repairs
– prepare a maintenance log, detailing what work had been completed throughout the day, including time started and ended
– prepare a preventative maintenance log
– perform basic repairs or alterations as per written work orders or directions from unit inspection committee, board of directors or staff
– accompany fire inspectors, pest control, engineers, contractors or anyone identified by the office or board of directors
– empty garbage cans or recycling, place in appropriate bins and place them at the curb on garbage days

Other Maintenance

– clear front of co-op centre of any snow, including sidewalk, steps and deck
– keep sheds, basement and stairways clear of any debris and in organized condition
– keep washrooms clean
– do painting and renovations as necessary
– move appliances and equipment when needed
– pick up materials from suppliers
– unit inspections
– respond to emergencies
– mentor youth working during the summer month

The co-op uses walkie-talkies to keep in touch. You must have one with you, so you can be contacted or located at any time.
